MIZZI MANSION

An Exceptional Residence Within Büyükada's Iconic Architectural Heritage

One of Büyükada's most magnificent and distinctive landmarks, Mizzi Mansion stands as an architectural icon that defines the island's skyline. With its remarkable history, unique architecture, and exceptional location, this extraordinary property awaits its new owner.

Located on Çankaya Avenue in the Nizam neighborhood, the mansion is also known locally as "Al Palas." Its distinctive red-brick façade, imposing tower, and intricate architectural details make it one of Büyükada's most recognizable historic residences.

Designated as a Grade I Listed Cultural Heritage Property, Mizzi Mansion is far more than a prestigious residence; it is a rare and beautifully preserved example of Istanbul's architectural heritage.

Set within a lush, beautifully landscaped garden on a 1,560 m² plot, the mansion offers 1,089 m² of usable space, 11 rooms, magnificent high-ceilinged living areas, and captivating sea and sunset views, creating a truly exceptional living environment.

One of the property's most distinctive features, its historic observation tower, lends the mansion its unmistakable architectural identity, while the original cistern and carefully preserved architectural details offer a fascinating connection to its past.

A Masterpiece of History and Architecture

Believed to have been originally constructed in masonry during the 1860s, Mizzi Mansion is an important example of Istanbul's Levantine heritage and 19th-century residential architecture.

One of the most prominent figures in the mansion's history was Lewis Mizzi, a Maltese-born British lawyer and publisher. Known for his passion for astronomy, Mizzi commissioned the renowned Italian architect Raimondo D'Aronco to undertake a two-phase architectural transformation of the property.

Between 1893 and 1894, the distinctive tower and observatory were added to the existing structure. This was followed by an extensive architectural renovation between 1894 and 1895, focusing particularly on the mansion's principal façade.

An outstanding example of D'Aronco's early work, the mansion reflects a revivalist architectural style strongly influenced by the Late Victorian period. Its architectural significance received international recognition when photographs documenting the renovation project and its decorative metalwork were exhibited at the 1896 Turin Art Triennial.

A comprehensive restoration programme initiated in 2018 included structural reinforcement and meticulous conservation work, carefully preserving the mansion's original architectural character.

Timeless Elegance, Enduring Value

With its distinguished history, monumental architecture, expansive gardens, and exceptional setting amid Büyükada's natural beauty, Mizzi Mansion represents a truly rare opportunity to acquire a property of extraordinary character and heritage.

Beyond its use as an exclusive private residence, the property may also offer potential for alternative uses, including a boutique hotel, museum, art gallery, or other cultural purposes, subject to the necessary approvals from the relevant heritage conservation authorities and applicable regulations.

Mizzi Mansion is more than a property to own. It is an extraordinary legacy to preserve, cherish, and pass on to future generations.
